Things To Do in NYC: Work On Yo’ Fitness

A few days ago, while perusing Groupon, I came across an offer which seemed too good to be true:

10 hour-long personal training sessions for only $40

Sign. Me. Up.

I bought one for myself and gifted one to Chelsea — in part because we had talked about finding a personal trainer in 2013, but mostly because I’m a selfish person who didn’t want to endure that much physical pain all by myself.

At least I’m honest?

We went for our first session last night. The gym is called Just Keep Moving Fitness and it’s located in Kips Bay in the basement of a building. I’ll be honest with you.  It didn’t smell great.  You get used to it.

Each personal training session happens in small groups of 5. I liked it because I got one-on-one attention when I needed it, but I also wasn’t being stared at the whole time.

For spending less than $5 on one single class, it definitely kicked my butt. Walking down the stairs of my apartment building this morning was a sweet, sweet torture. I go to the gym on my own regularly, but I’m never, ever sore. Maybe because I go just to people watch?

Kidding! Kind of…

(Please also note that Just Keep Moving required us to fill out and sign waivers as “first time” members. I put Frank down as my emergency contact — secretly hoping that they’d have to call him and he’d have no idea what was going on.)

  1. what a great deal. I work out very regularly & my muscles may get “tight” but never truly sore. Well I took a body pump on Monday – I am having SO much trouble walking, standing up, bending down, the whole nine yards today. Like just wanna curl in the fetal position bad.
