Things to Do in NYC: Eat Meatballs

Yesterday, I reunited with my long-lost BFF Lauryn (flashback to the most fun weekend EVER!) at a restaurant which I shall now refer to as “Heaven on Earth.”

Meatball Shop, where have you been all my life?

I absolutely LOVE meatballs.  (How could you not?)  My dad owns a restaurant and, when I was younger, my favorite part about visiting him at work was stealing obscene amounts of meatballs from behind the counter and stuffing my face.  I’m such a class act.

Clearly, this place was right up my alley.

Since I’m five years old, I loved the fact that you had to write on your menu to order.  The process was simple:

Step 1:  Pick a meatball.

Step 2:  Pick a sauce.

Step 3:  Pick a side (or two, or three!).

We handed our menus back to our waitress and caught up on all things work, life, boys, and puppies.  #GIRLS

Before we knew it, dinner was served.

Mine:  Classic beef balls, classic tomato sauce, brussel sprouts with roasted onion and crispy chorizo (underneath), and a market salad on the side.

Lauryn’s:  Balls of the day (Chile-Relleno pork, poblano, jalapeno, cilantro, queso fresco), Salsa Verde sauce, brussel sprouts with roasted onion and crispy chorizo (underneath), and a market salad on the side.

Two words:  HOLY CRAP.  The food was incredible, flavorful, and fresh.  It was everything I dreamed it would be and more.  I didn’t want my meal to end.

Well, that was before I realized that THIS was our next course.

Dessert:  Vanilla ice cream, snickerdoodle cookie (on top), and brownie walnut cookie (on the bottom).

Ohhhhhh my Lord.  I will dream about this ice cream sandwich until it is back in my life.

If you ever find yourself in New York City, I highly recommend swinging by The Meatball Shop for a meal.  It’s inexpensive, unique and, above all, absolutely delicious.  If meat isn’t your thing, have no fear!  They do have plenty of vegetarian options available on the menu.

I know that I’ll be back — probably sooner rather than later!

  3. Oh, I love this. The Meatball Shop is my JAM – especially that location, the wait is shorter annnd a cute bartender named Kevin happens to work there :) Also very cool that your dad owns a restaurant. What a fun fact!

But I have one very important question: where’s the Bitches Brew?! I kid. Next time!

Yes, my dad is the COOLEST! (Hi, dad!)

I know, I know. Don’t be disappointed in us. I just didn’t know how well pineapple juice would mix with beef balls… Next time! Hopefully we’ll be together! :)

  4. The last time I was in NYC my boyfriend and I tried to go here but the wait was forever and a day so we skipped it, but seeing the ice cream sandwich makes wish we would have stayed. I’ll just have to make sure we don’t skip this one next time…

We were lucky and didn’t have to wait, but we also went really early. I promise it’s worth it! It was delicious (and this is coming from someone whose father owns an Italian restaurant). And yes, the ice cream sandwich may have been the best part of the meal. (Isn’t dessert always the best part?)
