Help!
My boyfriend and I are going on a roadtrip next week, and we need suggestions of things to do, places to see, and food to eat throughout our travels!
Here’s a rough look at our itinerary:
Starting off in good ol’ New Jersey!
Spending the 4th of July in Boston, Massachusetts…
Heading North to hike in Portland, Maine!
Spending a few nights in our very own cottage in Kennebunkport, Maine…
Cruising back down the coast for an evening in Nantucket, Massachusetts…
And ending back where we started, New Jersey!
Have you ever been to any of these spots? Is there somewhere we must visit? Something we must do? Food we must eat?! Fireworks we must see?!?!?!
Any and all suggestions are appreciated!
Merci, merci!

I do not live in the U.S and !’m not familiar with the journey you are planning to take. However it seems like an interesting one full of adventure and learning opportunities. Remember to bring some basic medical remedies along with flash light and blanket as Life is full of unknowns. Have fun!
Aw, thank you for the kind comment Gladys. Probably the best advice I’ve gotten so far!
If you’re heading to Boston and like crispy crust pizza and wings, Woody’s is DELICIOUS. It’s on Hemenway Street. Cute little place, yummy food
Um, who DOESN’T love crispy crust pizza? I just made a mental note. I’ll let you know if we try it. Thank you so much for commenting! xoxo
STOPPPP you’re going to be in boston the ONE week i’m in DC!!! promise you’ll come back so we can hang with our glowsticks and neon?? like for the healthy living summit??
well, while you’re both in boston you should definitely go grab dinner or drinks/apps at top of the hub. the views of the city are unbelievable! if you want to go somewhere different but AMAZING for dinner go to fire & ice, you make a bowl of ANYTHING you want and they will cook it right in front of you and the best part is it’s a buffet/UNLIMITED food
it’s also in a great area so you can walk around the boston commons/newbury street (shopping!) after you grab lunch/dinner there. red sox games are a must followed by a beer (or five) at one of the MANY bars by fenway. fanueil hall is beautiful at night and full of bars, plus quincy market is right there! let me know what dates you’ll be here, maybe we can try to meet up!
I KNOW! You were the first person I thought of. I promise I’ll come back to visit SOON! I’ll only be there for one night this time around. Not long enough!
Thank you for the suggestions… I love me a good view of the city! I will report back to let you know where we ended up!
xoxo
I lived in the Kennebunkport area until I was 10, and my family goes back there at least once a year.
eat all the lobster you can find. there are few things more delicious than super fresh lobster on a buttery hot dog roll. don’t forget the coleslaw, french fries, or clam chowder, either!
bring a sweatshirt (or 2). Maine’s beaches are cold. the water is cold, it’s usually windy, and I don’t think I had a sunburn until I moved away.
I’m kind of obsessed with the LL Bean store. spend some time playing with the hiking supplies and you will be too.
they say ‘wicked’ a lot. I’d recommend watching a few episodes of North Woods Law. it’s probably the most epic (and relatable, for me) show on television today.
try to spy on George Bush’s house. everyone knows where it is and if you’re lucky you’ll see some Secret Service men jogging.
I love you for this sweet comment! I was hoping for some good seafood – it looks like lobster it is! I’ll be sure to let you know how it is.
And since I’m ALWAYS freezing, I will definitely be packing a sweater.
THANK YOU! You’re “wicked” awesome.
Hi!
Sounds amazing! Here’s my suggestions:
When in Portland–eat at DuckFat, tour the Shipyard Brewery (they offer tastings), get lobster rolls at Portland Lobster Company. Also, if driving up to Portland, stop by Rockport or Gloucester and enjoy the beaches.
In Nantucket–so many great places. Rent Bikes in town and bike out to Madaket beach on the bike path via Cliff Rd. While in Madaket stop at Millies and eat incredible quesadillas on the picnic tables outside. Make sure to get Triple 8 blueberry vodka lemonade drinks (amazing). Bike to the Cisco Brewery. If you’re feeling fancy, get dinner on Galley Beach if it’s a nice night (other good restaurants for dinner: corazon del mar, the pearl, or just grab chowder and lobster rolls from the straight wharf fish shack and eat them on the docks in the harbor at sunset). Some good bars are Straight Wharf, the bar at White Elephant hotel (really nice views of the harbor), the Gazebo, and Chicken Box (party scene). Make sure to get homemade ice cream from Juice Bar, it’s heavenly.
Boston–I could write a million things about Boston, so if you’re here for awhile let me know and I can give you ideas! Too bad I won’t be around next week, I would love to see you! Have a great trip!
Well, based on your suggestions, it looks like I’m going to need to move to Nantucket sooner rather than later. Blueberry vodka lemonade, homemade ice cream, bike rentals and quesadillas? I wish we were going to be there for longer than a day!!
Thank you so, so much for all of this! I’ll report back and let you know where we found ourselves.
Next time I’m in Boston (for more than a day, hopefully) I better see you! xoxo
